River Nith

Down near Dumfries the Nith offers some fantastic winter sport for Grayling.

With a medium to big sized river offering some outstanding sport for grayling, with catches in the 50+ per day per angler not unheard of, it is the hotspot to be in the Winter months.

It can get busy but if you go mid week and fish the not so busy parts it can reward you with possibly the biggest grayling you will ever catch. A friend of mine landed a grayling some years back 5 years ago and it was measured at 60cm but without a camera it was returned to face another day. Possibly a new Scottish record, but he could not bring himself to kill such a beautiful fish.

On a recent trip there I had 50+ grayling and most were well over the 40cm mark, all on the Trio method of fishing and It was midweek and I had the place all to myself.

The grayling there are fat and big, super strong and fight like demon's. The season to fish for them is very short and starts Dec 1st of every year and ends on the Last day of Jan, so if you fancy it this season book up quick. One section is open until March 31st for Grayling.

Various beats are available, so contact me for more information as I will need to check as the rods are limited per day. Well worth the effort to get on there.
