Loch Leven
For many many years Loch Leven was my second home, a frustrating place in the beginning learning it, but nothing changes and once you have put the hours in the knowledge is always there. I have helped a few anglers qualify and learn the Loch over the years and spent many a happy hour there.
Early morning's was always my favourite part of the Loch's fishing, but you have to get the weather right for them as its dry fly heaven if it is right.
Early Morning start from the end of May through to the start of august.
Normal season is from the end of march, start of April until October the 6th.
This is where I made the Humungus fly famous, winning many competitions with it on the Loch, those big browns and big Rainbows loved it. John Horsey and Chris Ogborne both said that the rainbows that were in Loch Leven were the best they had ever seen and they were right.
Now a brown trout only venue it is producing stonking fish and for the regulars some fantastic buzzer sport at the start of the year as you can now use anchors on the Loch, something that was never allowed before, being the home of International Fly Fishing.
Being some 3500 acres it is somewhere that every angler should put on their bucket list, its not any normal fishery with the biggest brown last year going 9lb 6ozs and with myself catching the first ever double figure fish albeit a rainbow but that fish was stocked at 1lb in weight. The feeding in there is amazing. The Brown trour Record now stands at over 11lb + a topper of a fish.
Hosting one of the session in the World Championships in 2009 many of the world's top angler's got a taster for the place and even though it was hard that week, there were some impressive fish caught and landed.
